The incredibly inviting cellar door is incorporated into the 1860′s homestead and property of Seville’s first settler, Thomas Payne. Mr Payne was granted the allotment in Seville on the 18th February 1867. Before settling in Seville, Mr Payne worked in the goldfields and building trades, mastering the skills of lath plastering and the like. These skills were applied to the construction of his lath and plaster home overlooking the valleys of Seville and Wandin.

The Cullens purchased the 50 acre property in 1999. They planted 5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz and had their first release in 2004. The vineyard has been expanded to 10 acres with the addition of Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.

Narelle and Tim want you to feel right at home as you stroll around the original house and surrounding buildings. Walk over to the “house of surprises” where you can sit under beautiful ancient oak and elm trees and sip on their award winning wines. Have a snack on gourmet pizza, cured meats and cheeses or settler style coffee and biscuits. Relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the Yarra Valley and Great Dividing Range from what feels like your own back yard.

And to complete your welcome to Payne’s Rise, you will be ably and affectionately greeted by Dash – their lovable Kelpie X!

“We aim to present a place rich in history, charm and character, where our visitors can relax and enjoy our fine wines,” says Tim and Narelle

The winner of a number of awards, Payne’s Rise has become a premier winery in Yarra Valley. Awards including several gold medals, the trophy for Best Shiraz and the trophy for Best Single Vineyard Wine at the 2011 Yarra Valley Wine Show for 2010 Redlands Shiraz, the trophy for Best Cabernet Sauvignon and the trophy for Best Single Vineyard Red Wine at the 2012 Yarra Valley Wine Show for 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, and more recently gold medal at the 2015 Yarra Valley Wine Show for their 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon.

Tim and Narelle have been proud members of Smaller Wineries Yarra Valley since 2012 and thoroughly enjoy being a part of a like-minded group of talented winemakers and winery owners who, together, make your visit to their wineries that much more special.
